Within the last week, I have been working on getting myself a better bedtime routine. Being a mom has meant that my bedtime revolves around when I get my kids into their beds and after they have fallen asleep.

Watching the clock countdown might work for some, but it has been taking a toll on not only my productivity during the day, but also my sleep. To work on my routine, I have utilized these 5 Tips for a Better Night’s Sleep. Plus, each tip is completely doable regardless of your lifestyle!5 tips to a better night's sleep

5 Tips to a Better Night’s Sleep

Set a Routine. All to often, we forget that how successful our bedtime is really does depend on how the rest of the day went. Your best bet is really to set an early morning waking time before the kids get up.

Give yourself a free hour in the morning to take a shower, enjoy a cup of tea and really take some time for yourself. You will be surprised how much better your outlook on the day goes after starting the day with you time.

Be Active During the Day. We all need activity. Our bodies aren’t meant to sit around all day. Whether this means taking a 30-minute walk or picking the stairs over the elevator, every little bit helps. By the time bedtime roles around, you will notice a difference!

Wind Down Before Bed. After a long day, you can’t just flip a switch and be ready for sleep. Your body needs time to decompress from the day, physically and mentally. Consider spending some relaxing time with a cup of decaffeinated tea and a quiet activity that you enjoy, such as reading, scrapbooking, petting your cat, etc.

Turn off Devices. Our lives are controlled so often by the devices we use. Being connected can be very useful and necessary, but not 24 hours a day. Setting a time when your device is put away for the evening helps. It also is a good way to spend family time together.

Vacuum your mattress regularly. Most of us don’t really think about what is really lurking in our mattresses. Did you know that your mattress is home to dust mites, dust mite feces, allergens, dust and more?

I’m usually late to bed and early to rise and if I still can’t nod off I just count 1,2,1,2 in time to my breathing. This is so boring that I fall asleep in no time 🙂
