I recently added a new furry addition to our family. Meet Toulouse, our adorable Himalayan/Persian/Maine Coon. He is 10 weeks old and frisky as can be. He enjoys playtime, pets and long naps. Being so young, it is super important that we keep his health in mind.
One important step is feeding. It is vital for every cat owner to know the cat food facts especially when it comes to understanding the importance of feeding wet and dry cat food.
Cat Food Facts
In terms of the best feeding choices for your cat, you need to determine your cat’s life stage. Whether you have a kitten or a mature cat, each life stage has different nutritional requirements. Additionally, keep in mind that the higher the quality of pet food, the better off your cat will be.
While both wet and dry cat food can meet your cat’s nutritional needs, wet food can contain up to 78% more water than dry food. It is nearly impossible to get an adequate amount of water intake from eating dry food, even when drinking from the water bowl. Your cat needs fresh water daily.
It is also extremely important in the diet of pets with diabetes, constipation, kidney problems, crystals in male cats, etc. Dry food is a good choice for those that need to leave food in a bowl throughout the day, but wet food is by far much better for the water content. Wet food also has higher protein levels and decreased carbohydrates.
The only way to determine a healthy and appropriate diet for your pet is through your education and veterinary recommendation. For my cats, I leave dry food and water bowls out all day. I also feed them wet food twice a day.

Toulouse – what a cutey and what an interesting blend of breeds. I wonder if he will get really big like a Maine Coon Cat – some of them are huge! Take care and I enjoy all of your postings! Wendy and Cookie in Calgary.

Your kitten is beautiful and I love his markings. The vet told me hard food is better for them whether they’re cats or dogs because it helps with tartar on their teeth as well it’s better for their digestion.

I don’t have a cat, but I actually never understood the difference between wet and dry cat food (or dog food). I have always thought that dry pet food was wrong in some way; it did not seem normal frankly and especially when considering what a normal, natural or wild diet for these animals actually consists of. Thank you for the explanation.
