Choosing Healthy Cat Food For Your Cat

My cats are part of my family. I couldn’t imagine my life without them in it. Despite the extra cleaning, random messes and fur, I wouldn’t have my life any other way.

As with any member of my family, I want the best for my cats, which includes choosing healthy cat food. With so many options out there it is very important that you do your research when it comes to choosing healthy cat food for your cat!

Choosing Healthy Cat Food

Determine the type of food your cat will need based on your their age/activity level. Available choices usually include kitten, adult, indoor, senior, healthy weight, etc.

A healthy cat food will feature ingredients beneficial to your cat’s specific needs. Many brands feature a selection of dry cat foods that give you a wide range of choices for your cat.

Choosing Healthy Cat Food 1Check Ingredients. The reality is that many cat foods are filled with unnecessary and not ideal ingredients. You want to find a cat food that contains high-quality ingredients, especially those you are familiar with.

Important ingredients include meat and fish proteins, healthy fats, wholesome fruits & vegetables, nutrient-rich botanicals and low-glycemic carbohydrates.

Choosing Healthy Cat Food 2

Choose the right recipe. Each cat has his/her preference when it comes to food. There are many recipes to choose from for your cat. You might find that your cat isn’t too interested in a seafood taste, but is crazy about chicken.

Pay Attention. One of the most important things you can always do for your cat is to pay attention. While they can’t tell you what is wrong in words, they do change their behaviour. Pay close attention to your cat’s appetite, activity level and demeanour on a regular basis.

I’ve always been a “dog person” but recently have had 2 cats adopt me. Having no experience with cats, it’s all new to me. I’m just learning about their health needs and foods. Thanks for the recommendation. I’m going to see if I can find Nutrience at one of my local stores.

Cats are family members so its serious to know what they can and can’t eat.

I’m going to try Nutrience out for our two cats. One of our kitties vomits alot after eating; not quite sure what’s going on with her but the vet said she is healthy. Worth giving it a try!

Hi Anne! Cats vomit, just part of the norm. If you think about it, we would vomit a lot too if we constantly had to clean our own hair ..hehe

My cat vomited a lot as well. My vet suggested one quarter of a Pepcid AC. I tried it and it worked. Turned out the poor soul just had heartburn

Thanks for the post “Choosing Healthy Cat Foods”. I purchase cat food while grocery shopping, and sometimes wonder if I couldn’t do better for the cats. Doubt store will carry Nutrience but I will look for it.

I only buy meat first cat food and no colourings. It is surprising how much junk is in most foods!
