Christmas Tree Cookies

I recently started cookie decorating. After countless hours spent on Instagram looking at gorgeous cookies, I was inspired to try it myself.

My first go at decorating cookies were with my a Gingerbread Teapot Cookies. They turned out very nicely and led me to my second attempt, Christmas Tree Cookies!

Christmas Tree Cookies

I made the Christmas Tree Cookies out of gingerbread. Obviously, you can use whatever style of cookie you prefer. I find that the gingerbread is holiday fantastic and makes for a very stable cookie. You can find my Gingerbread Cookie Recipe on my teapot link above!

Instead of using Royal Icing for these, I chose to go with my best ever buttercream frosting. I did this because I wanted a frosted look and I was able to achieve it way easier.

Christmas Tree Cookies 1To outline the cookies, I used a #5 Wilton tip. I got the perfect piping consistency by adding a little extra milk to the buttercream. Once I had outlined the white on the cookies, I let them sit for a short bit.

I added more milk to the buttercream and created a very liquid-like consistency to fill in the cookies. A #3 Wilton tip was used to pipe in the frosting. I then let them dry slightly and used a #3 Wilton tip and tinted some of the firmer consistency buttercream pink and piped it onto the cookies carefully.

Christmas Tree Cookies 2I finished the Christmas Tree Cookies with pearl sprinkles and I used a princess crown sprinkle for the top of some of the trees.

I love baking cakes more than cookies as decorating each one takes more time and effort. I also prefer non-dairy icings and toppings if possible, but, haven’t seen a lot of recipes out there for it. I stil have my cookie cutters from Bulk Barn, but, they haven’t been used lately.
