Day Out with Thomas in Heritage Park – Calgary, Alberta

Thomas the Tank Engine has been a favourite character in our home since my son was just a baby. From the television series all the way to bath toys, we have enjoyed it all.

My youngest son may only be a year old, but he is already a Thomas fan, just like his big brother. To make it even more awesome, we had the fantastic opportunity to go to Day Out with Thomas in Calgary, Alberta!

Day Out with Thomas

The event was held at Heritage Park, which is an absolutely fantastic park. I have only had the pleasure of visiting a couple times, but each time I yearn to visit again. It may have been May, but the weather that day was snowy. We made sure to bundle up the kids and were ready for some train-tastic fun!

Day Out with Thomas 2

We arrived with a little over an hour and a half before the train departure, so we made our way to the face painting tent. It may have been cold and snowy outside, but each event tent was warm, dry and filled with fun. My daughter decided on a kitty face, while my son went with a tiger.

I obviously encouraged cat choices {hehe}. As you can clearly see, the job done on their face painting was amazing. There was music being played and toy areas set up in the tent, so both were engaged throughout.

Day Out with Thomas 3

We were able to visit each tent prior to the train ride, so it worked out perfectly. We put our youngest in his snowsuit, so he enjoyed watching and relaxing in his stroller. Music, play tables, colouring, stick-on tattoos and meeting Sir Topham Hatt were just some of the exciting activities.

I personally was in awe of the gorgeous scenery. I have never had the pleasure of visiting Heritage Park without snow, but I can imagine it is just as fabulous. The setting was so enchanting and the horse-drawn wagon ride that passed by us just added to the whimsical feel!

Day Out with Thomas 4

The only downside was my camera battery died right as everyone was loading the train. You can probably imagine how well I took that {hehe}. All my children loved the train ride, especially my youngest. He was in awe of the sounds and getting to ride in a vintage railcar. I couldn’t have asked for a better response than that.

I only have a daughter so needless to say there wasn’t any Thomas the Tank Engine in our home, but I had a co-worker who’s nephew had all the Thomas toys. It looks like your family had a great time.

Strangely enough, although I have a daughter who lives in Calgary and who I visit every couple of months I’ve never had the pleasure of going to the Heritage Park. I must mention going there next time I’m down that way, thanks for the tip 🙂
