Several years ago, I purchased an adorable little kitty cat cookie cutter. I had come upon it while I was walking the aisles of Bulk Barn back when we lived only a couple blocks away from one!
As someone who loves to bake and create, I miss having that store so very close! Fast forward to recently when I needed an idea for my Daughter’s official birthday cupcakes! These easy kitty cat cupcakes for kids really are the cat’s meow!
Easy Kitty Cat Cupcakes for Kids of All Ages!
To begin, you need to make cupcakes. One option is to simply go with a boxed mix. They save you a lot of time and usually money. However, you can also make your own homemade favourite.
You can check out my Coconut Cupcakes for a delicious change to the usual vanilla or chocolate! Keep in mind that you will need the cupcakes to be completely cooled before frosting them!
For frosting the cupcakes, I went with my Best Ever Buttercream Frosting. It is always my go-to-recipe and I use it in at least 90% of my baking! It is one of those recipes that I know so well I could probably do it in my sleep!
After frosting the cupcakes, I brought out my kitty cat cutter and Wilton Decorator Fondant. I rolled the fondant and then cut out adorable little kitty cats with the cookie cutter! I love using pre-purchased fondant because it saves me a lot of time and I love the smell/taste!
Next, I went to work decorating each kitty cat! I used Wilton Edible Colour Markers to make the kitty eyes, lips and collar tag. This was my first time working with the edible colour markers and I was so pleased with how easy they were!
For the adorable little nose and collar, I used Wilton Pink Sparkle Gel. I loved how it gave a little sparkle to the look and each kitty couldn’t have been more perfect!
When it was time to place these beauties on cupcakes, I simply added a little more buttercream to the top of each cupcake and the fondant kitties sat fabulously on top! I should also mention that my inspiration for these cupcake cuties is my own adorable kitty cat, Cheshire.
He was more than happy to check out the creation process and of course, get a photo with the cupcakes. He definitely gives these cupcakes 4 paws up!
4 Paws Up For These Delicious Easy Kitty Cat Cupcakes for Kids!
If at this point you are looking at the cupcake liners in the picture and wondering how they stay so vibrant even after baking, I use Reyonds Baking Cups. They stay just as fabulous even throughout the baking process, which makes every cupcake even more awesome!
