Elf on the Shelf Ideas

Last Christmas, we adopted our Elf on the Shelf and named him Chippy. Prior to Chippy’s December visits, I did a lot of internet searching. I was honestly oblivious to what Elf on the Shelf was all about and so thankful I took the time to find out.

This year, I am looking forward to Chippy coming to visit just as much as my children are. I am already brainstorming the mischief he will be getting up to each morning! I have come up with some of my favourite Elf on the Shelf ideas and hope you find them as fun as my children have!Elf on the Shelf Ideas Collage

Elf on the Shelf Ideas

Elf on the Shelf Camera Selfies! There is nothing quite as unique as waking up and finding that your favourite elf was up to some fun antics while you slept. Think Elf selfies!

Surprise Message! Your elf may not be able to talk to your children, but they can sure leave a special message for them to find in the morning. It doesn’t have to be anything fantastic, but writing in a Christmas-style font is all that more awesome!

Hanging Around! Each night the family elf goes back to the North Pole. The question is, what would happen if you discover him right as he was coming back home? Maybe your elf uses ribbon upon his return and your children find him hanging around!

Visiting with the pets! With all the excitement, one has to think the pets will want to get in on the fun. Maybe your elf is found in the morning with the dog’s leash, getting ready to take him outside for an early morning walk! Or perhaps your elf took some fun photos of him playing with kitty or even taking a kitty ride!

Grow a candy cane! This has to be one of the best ideas I had. Our elf left a note with a magic bean {a tic tac or other small candy} that said to leave the magic bean in a bowl of sugar overnight. In the morning, when the children wake up, they find a candy cane in its place. It was a magic candy cane bean!

Baking mess! Waking up and find your elf surrounded by flour, sugar and other treats really makes you wonder what they were baking as you slept. Hmmmmmmm……

These are just a few of the countless fun ideas you can come up with for your Elf on the Shelf!

I like Christopher Popinkins better… same idea, but he looks a little less creepy.

The concept is pretty awesome Amy. You adopt an elf. He returns to the North Pole each night to report to Santa about the day’s happenings. He returns each morning and that is when the children can go find where he will be for the day. You can’t TOUCH him! It will ruin his elf magic. Kids love waking up and seeing what he has been up to and knowing that he will tell Santa how they have been keeps them behaving!! hehe

We don’t have an Elf at Christmas time, I think that I’d have trouble hiding it! None of my children have adopted an Elf for their children either, shame it might have been fun.

I know kids love the Elf but I’m so glad I don’t have kids because I find him kind of creepy! It must be really hard to come up with new ideas every day too!

Ours just shows up at family Christmas celebrations. He has been known to overindulge in the Christmas cheer, he has TP’d the Christmas tree and turned bananas into minions. You never know what he will do next.
