When you can’t leave your feline friend at home, you need to plan for traveling with your cat. If you will be staying overnight in a hotel, it’s essential you choose a cat friendly one. More hotels allow pets today than they have in the past, but the policies can vary on what kinds of pets you can have.
Finding a cat friendly hotel doesn’t have to be painful. Here are some ways to find out if a hotel is pet-friendly and cat-friendly!
Finding a Cat Friendly Hotel
- Research them online – Most hotels and hotel chains now have websites with readily available information about their pet policies. Be sure to read the fine print and to call and check with someone if you’re uncertain about something.
- Call ahead – Sometimes you really need to speak to someone directly to get all the details. Ask about rules and regulations, added pet fees, and what is included with your fee. Then there won’t be any surprises once you arrive.
- Look for visitor reviews – One of the best ways to truly know what a hotel is all about is to see what other visitors have to say about it. So read reviews from cat owners and see what they say about how a particular hotel treated them and their feline friends.
Here are some chains that are known for allowing cats:
- Affinia Hotels – This chain has five properties in New York and also one in Washington, D.C. that allow you to take your cat with you. They charge a $50 pet fee no matter how many days you stay.
- Hilton Hotels – The very popular Hilton chain of hotels also offers a friendly cat policy. They allow one cat each in one of their specialty designated pet-friendly hotels. They also have Hilton-quality pet amenities.
- Four Seasons – This hotel group has different hotels with varying pet policies so always call ahead if you’re not sure. Sometimes they have stipulations for declawed cats only, and your cat may have to be left in a carrier if unattended in your room. There may be a one-time cleaning fee as well.
- Hyatt Hotels – Hyatt Hotels adopted a pet policy back in 2012 but you’ll need to check with the hotel you plan to stay in because not all are feline-friendly. They typically have a pet fee of $100 and it lasts for up to six nights.
- Intercontinental Hotels Group – This is the umbrella name for popular chains like Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, and Staybridge.
With this in mind, you can plan your next trip if you’ll be bringing your cats along. You should also be sure to come fully prepared. Bring any medications your cat may take, your own pet bed, your kitty’s favorite toys and anything else your cat may need to be most comfortable on your little adventure.

This is great, last year we took Lou away with us and although I knew they allowed Dogs I did not check about cats and than was petrified there would be an issue. Next time I will call ahead ( Plus I love IHG so this post made me very happy)
