Homemade Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

I love my donut pan. I have had it for a couple years now and it is fabulous. I can’t believe it took me this long to start making my own donuts. Don’t get me wrong. I love Tim Horton’s donuts. However, my homemade Cinnamon Sugar Donuts are just as yummy, if not better!

You can read all about my original Baked Cake Donuts Recipe, which gives you the recipe as well as showing the pan I use. My kids absolutely love cinnamon and sugar, so it was only natural for me to change up the cake donuts just a bit!

Homemade Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

Homemade Cinnamon Sugar Donuts Recipe

You will need:

  • 2 cups cake flour, sifted
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar, plus additional for adding to cinnamon mix
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tbsp. butter, melted
  • cinnamon

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Spray doughnut pan with nonstick cooking spray.

In a large mixing bowl, sift together cake flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and salt. Add buttermilk, eggs and butter. Beat until just combined. Fill each doughnut cup approx. 2/3 full.

Bake 7-9 minutes or until the top of the doughnuts spring back when touched. Let cool in pan for 4-5 minutes before removing. Finish doughnut by dipping quick in melted butter and coating with cinnamon/sugar mixture! Homemade Cinnamon Sugar Donuts 2I never have buttermilk or cake flour on hand, so I substitute the cake flour with all-purpose flour, but use 2 tablespoons less than the recipe calls for. I use 1 tablespoon of white vinegar mixed with about a cup of milk to substitute for the buttermilk!
