For me, the holiday season usually includes several varieties of pies. While you can purchase pie crusts at your local grocer, this can start to add up.
That is why my Homemade Pie Crust, which came from my Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook, is my go-to pie crust recipe of choice all-year-round!
Homemade Pie Crust
You will need:
1 & 1/4 cups flour
1/3 cup shortening
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 to 7 tablespoons cold water
In a bowl, mix together flour and salt. Cut in the shortening to the mixture until pieces are pea-size. Mix cold water in 1 tablespoon at a time until the dough is moistened.
On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a large circle.
Once your dough is rolled out, you can then carefully wrap it around the rolling pin.
Slowly unwrap the dough from the rolling pin into the pie pan. You want to be careful not to tear the dough.
Once your dough is pressed into the pie pan, you can cut the additional dough off the edges prior to crimping.
Pinch the pastry edges to create a fluted edge and done! Your pie crust is now ready to be filled and baked!

It’s a while since I made any pastry or needed any in fact. There never used to be any pre-made stuff so it was always home-made.
