How to Frost Cupcakes Together to Form a Cake
A very popular trend right now is to have cupcakes formed into a desired shape and frosted together to form the appearance of a cake. I think this decorating approach is fantastic for parties of any occasion and saves the hassle of cutting and serving cake pieces. For many, it seems a hassle attempting to get everything frosted evenly together, but in reality it is pretty easy and quick.
For a recent cake order, I ended up taking over 40 cupcakes and setting them together to form a large rectangle. I then used the Wilton Decorating Tip #789 to frost over each cupcakes quickly and basically in lines {as demonstrated in the picture above}.
I made sure that there was a semi-heavy amount of frosting covering each cupcake so that I could “blend” the frosting together in the last step. Using a Wilton Spatula, I blended the frosting together toward the direction of the gaps. A good idea is to have cold water in a cup next to you while doing this so that you can place the spatula into the water periodically to keep the frosting from sticking to it.
The result is quick, easy and a great surface to create your cake decoration on for that special occasion!

So the frosting in between where the cupcakes meet doesn’t fall through? Genius!
