Last month, my family and I decided to spend a couple days in Edmonton, Alberta. This was my very first visit to Edmonton and with it only being 3 hours away, I couldn’t pass it up!
We ended up staying in a hotel close to the city centre and the only expectation we had was to have a great 2 days away! Our second day in Edmonton was the most adventurous as we visited the Edmonton Mall followed by the Jurassic Forest!
Jurassic Forest Prehistoric Dinosaur Park
The mall was a mall. I had been looking forward to seeing the Edmonton Mall since I was a teenager. However, I found it to be more suited to older children and basically went to the Disney Store and called it good. We did walk away with a great stormtrooper Halloween costume for my youngest though!
Then off we went to see the Jurassic Forest. With my husband and son’s love for dinosaurs, we knew it was going to be good! Upon our arrival, we decided to skip the Mini Golf and just go with the General Admission. The ticket prices are very reasonable and we started on our way through the forest!
So I have to tell you at this point that my youngest did not know what to expect. He asked if there was real dinosaurs, keep in mind he is only 4, and my husband told him we would have to find out. So the very first time he came upon a dinosaur while on the adventure trail, he dropped his mouth open and just stared.
He was trying to figure out if that was a real dinosaur or not. He stood there a good minute before he said it was okay to keep going. It wasn’t until about dinosaur 3 that he confirmed to us that they were just robots (haha)!
My son’s personal favourite was definitely the T-Rex. What is fun is that the dinosaur move and/or make sounds as you pass. They have motion detectors that capture when you pass, to let the dinosaurs know when to do their stuff. All the animatronic dinosaurs are very well-cared for and it adds to the experience.
I don’t want to post too many photos of the dinosaur inhabitants, as not to ruin the surprise, but the smilodon was my personal favourite. This saber-toothed cat clearly was not one you would want to mess with back in the day.
We ended up spending about an hour and a half going through the Jurassic Forest. There are areas to picnic, play, take a break and play mini golf. A family could easily spend the whole day enjoying what they have to offer. It made for some great photos as well as happy memories. Plus, my son got dinosaur poop in the gift shop, so his day was made!

Welcome to Edmonton, wish I could have told you there is a section at WEM for kids his age with rides, petting zoo and games, they have a kids Fantasyland as well as an adult one. The dinosaur park also has corn roasts and mazes later in the year.

I will have to take my godson there; I am in Calgary, 3 hours south. I don’t really like Edmonton (been too many times and frankly, there is that whole Calgary/Edmonton rivalry), but maybe a quick weekend visit would be good for the BFF, the god baby and I. Thanks for the recommendation!

The things you find out from good bloggers 🙂 I live in AB and didn’t even know about this park. Adding it to our explore next summer list.

What a great visit to Edmonton you had. I must say I’ve been to the mall fairly often but it’s mainly the kids who love going for the Waterpark and Galaxyland. I’ve never been to the Jurassic Park (despite living just south of Edmonton!) but it sounds very similar to Drumheller or so I thought until I tried to find it in Drumheller but couldn’t! So perhaps this is the one I’ve been to. LOL
