I can honestly say that I have never used maple extract in a recipe before. Mind you, I love maple, but apparently I never came upon the idea until recently.

I found a fabulous Maple Sugar Cookies recipe from Dixie Crystals and just had to try it out for myself!

Maple Sugar Cookies that melt-in-your-mouth. Classic, Easy and Delicious!

Maple Sugar Cookies

You will need:

  • 2 1/3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple extract
  • 2 cups icing sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple extract
  • Sprinkles

Maple Sugar Cookies that melt-in-your-mouth. Classic, Easy and Delicious!Preheat your oven to 350 Degrees °F. Use parchment paper on a baking sheet.

In a bowl, whisk together flour, salt and baking soda.

In a large bowl, mix together butter, sugar and vegetable oil. Mix in egg, maple extract and vanilla extract. One cup at a time, add the flour mixture until combined.

Roll dough into balls (2 tablespoons size) and set onto parchment paper baking sheet. Flatten the dough balls.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool cookies before icing.

To make the icing, mix together powdered sugar, water, maple extract and vanilla extract until smooth. Spoon icing on to each cookie and use sprinkles!

These are my kind of cookie, can’t say that I’ve ever heard of maple extract though, I’m guessing that’s not the same as maple syrup?
