Summer time has always been filled with hot weather, water parks and endless adventures. This is especially true for those with children. A child looks at summer like the ultimate time of year to play all day and stay up late at night! Plus, no school!
Summer also means picnic season! Planning a picnic is not only fun, but also a great way for families to share the summer time together. Check out my tips on planning a picnic and get ready for some serious picnic-tastic times!
Check the weather. No matter what you have planned, you never know what Mother Nature is planning. Check your local weather forecast an hour or two before your picnic to make sure the weather is accommodating. If not, you can also plan your picnic under cover or even in a tent!
Choose the appropriate location. Whether you are surprising the kids with a picnic in the backyard or an outing to a local water park, make sure your picnic location suits your needs. Do you need shade? Are their public bathrooms available? These are all things to consider when deciding on a location.
Determine your menu. There is something to be said for picnic-perfect eats. Sandwiches, wraps and right out of the package-ready foods are ideal. You want no-mess if possible.
Pack supplies. Coming prepared is a must. There are must-have staples such as a blanket to sit on, utensils if necessary and a trash bag for cleanup. Making sure the food and drinks make it safely to the picnic location is also top priority!

I had never thought of using lunchboxes for picnics, but it’s a nice idea. Each kid could helps pack their own box. And it means one person isn’t stuck carrying everything!
