On top of their dry and wet food, my cats enjoy cat treats. The moment they hear the crinkle of a bag, they are meowing for treats. I try to keep a good stash of cat treats on hand for that occasional late-night kitty snack!
However, cat treats are not cheap. I usually try to buy them when they are on sale, but in all honesty, they rarely go on sale and I am left paying full price. With 11 cats, I need a lot of treats.
Thankfully, I am able to make homemade cat treats at a fraction of the cost! One member of our cat-loving family is an adorable Ragdoll named Figaro and he loves his treats. Figaro’s Favourite Cat Treats are easy to make and your cat will love them!
Figaro’s Favourite Cat Treats
You Will Need:
4 oz can of tuna (in water)
1 cup flour
1 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup water
1/4 tsp salt
Figaro’s Favourite Cat Treats Are Kitty Delicious!
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
In a bowl, mix together all ingredients until combined.
Divide the dough into 2 balls.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface until it is 1/4 inch thick.
Using either a pizza cutter or cookie cutters, cut out the treats.
Place treats onto a greased cookie sheet.
Bake for 15 minutes.

How long will these last? How best to store them? Can they be frozen? (I’m guessing not).
Kristen says
I had them out about a week with no problem. Obviously, an air tight container would help them last longest. I don’t see why you couldn’t free them. They would probably stay good for a few months in the freezer.
Marlene Cavalcante says
I will be making for a craft sale for the church, how long will they keep in a closed jar?
Kristen says
That is fabulous Marlene! I think they would stay good for a week in an airtight container. In a freezer for a few months as well!
lizzy says
how long do these last before they become old? can the be in an airtight container on the counter or do they need to be in the fridge?
Kristen says
I kept mine in an airtight container on the counter for about a week. I think to get them to last longer, airtight and in the fridge would work too!
Vinnie says
Does anyone know the shelf life and if they need to be refrigerated?
Kristen says
I kept mine in an air-tight container for about a week. They would last longer refrigerated.
Jo-Anne Pfoh says
i have made these a few times !!! they love them

I’ve made homemade dog treats before, but never cat treats! I’m not sure why! I bet my Oliver would love these!!
Sarah says
I can see why your cats love these treats, so many tasty ingredients. I love homemade pet treats, there is way too much processed stuff in store bought treats, unless you buy the super expensive organic kind.
Heather says
My husband is allergic to cats, and I miss them so. My mom thankfully still has cats that I can snuggle and pamper. They’ll love these treats.
Kelly Hutchinson says

How cute are these? I am going to share them with my neighbour who has a cat. Maybe I will make her a batch myself.
Stephanie says
I will give these a try. FYI, there is tuna for Cats, Nine Lives and Frys (Krogers) and KMart used to sell it as well. It is plain tuna and cheaper than tuna d old for people. Also, if less grain is better there are protein powders that can be used as flours and all sorts of high protein flours instead of grain. I see these at my local Winco, so I save money and packaging. I guess if grain isn’t good for kittys, these might be better. If you try any before I do, post the recipe. I also read somewhere there was some stuff you could spray on cat food to make it like Crack to cats. I read it from a vet, who said that is what they put on dry food & treats to make them like Crack to the Kitty’s.
Stephanie says
You need an edit function for comments, auto correct is like having an insane person add to the things one writes.
Linda Cassidy says
pinned for later just in case
Kathy says
My 3 cats won’t even think about it they put their nose up and walked away
Kristen says
Oh no! Well, each kitty has their own preference! A kitty has to be picky after all, right? Hehehehe!
Mary Anderson says
Do you drain the tuna before adding it to the dough?
Kristen says
Yes, I did.
