Did you know that there are over 70 cat breeds that are recognized. This means there are a lot of choices when it comes to choosing the right cat breed for you. Here are a few of the most popular cat breeds to give you an idea of what is out there!

Popular Cat Breeds

American Shorthair
The American Shorthair has short fur, which means they don’t need constant grooming. They are also found to be quieter cats. They are playful and active, which means cat toys are a must! They are very fond of attention and affection. They are perfect for a household with children and other pets. They are very independent and intelligent.

Maine Coon
The Maine Coon is a highly intelligent cat breed that does require grooming at least twice a week. Their long fur makes them look larger than they really are. They are active and playful. They love attention and affection, but are rather quiet. They are very independent. They are perfect for a household with children and other pets.

Sphynx
Though considered hairless, the Spynx does have a fine down. You will need to frequently bath and groom this cat breed. They are extremely intelligent, loyal, loveable and affectionate. They are not considered to be independent cats, so they do require a lot of attention. They are perfect for households with children and other pets.

Ragdoll
The Ragdoll is less active than other cat breeds. Yet, the Ragdoll is very playful and enjoys cat toys/cat furniture. They are considered to be somewhat dependent and are extremely affectionate. They are vocal and highly intelligent. Since they have a longer coat, they do require grooming. They are perfect for households with children and other pets.

These are just 4 of the most popular cat breeds out there, but definitely some of the very best!

I have a long haired tortie who is very independent but likes being brushed and a ginger tabby who is such a baby that everyone calls him my puppy. He follows me everywhere! They are both very sweet but in different ways.

I didn’t realize that there are over 70 recognized cat breeds. We love our animal shelter adoptees, and have found that each cat has it’s own personality.

I’ve only ever had mixed breeds that you find at the humane society and I love them the same.
